Hainan's Haiwen Bridge officially opens to traffic

Puqian Bridge, which links Haikou, the capital city of Hainan Province and an ancient town in Wenchang city, will officially open to traffic at 3pm today. The opening ceremony kicked off at 9am this morning with the name of the bridge officially changed into Haiwen Bridge.

The total length of the bridge is 5.597 km, including about 3.959 km across the sea. The main bridge is 460 meters long and the tower is 151.8 meters high. It is the largest single-tower and double-cable-plane steel box girder cable-stayed bridge, with the highest investment of 3.01 billion yuan.

The bridge, which provides a quicker access to Wenchang city from Haikou, will cut drive time from an hour and a half to just 20 minutes. It is expected to promote economic growth of the northern part of Hainan province.
