Q: Recently, the PLAN conducted a large-scale training exercise in the South China Sea. Most people believe that it is related to the upcoming ruling by the arbitral tribunal in charge of the South China Sea arbitration case initiated by the Philippines. What is the comment from the MND?
答：中国海军日前在南海开展的演训活动，是根据年度训练计划做出的例行性安排。此次演习针对海上可能出现的情况，立足打赢信息化海上局部战争，开展实兵检验性训练，旨在提高海军履行使命任务的能力。
The recently concluded PLAN training exercise in the South China Sea was a routine arrangement included in the annual training program. This diagnostic live exercise, based on possible scenarios at sea, aims to winning informationized local wars at sea and improving the capability of the PLAN in performing its missions and tasks.
关于菲律宾南海仲裁案，中国政府的立场是一贯的、明确的。不论仲裁结果如何，都不会影响中国在南海的主权和权益。不论仲裁结果如何，中国军队将坚定不移捍卫国家主权、安全和海洋权益，坚决维护地区和平稳定，应对各种威胁挑战。
The Chinese government’s position on the South China Sea arbitration case initiated by the Philippines is consistent and clear. No matter what kind of ruling is to be made, China’s sovereignty, rights and interests will not be affected. No matter what kind of ruling is to be made, Chinese armed forces will firmly safeguard national sovereignty, security and maritime interests and rights, firmly uphold regional peace and stability, and deal with all kinds of threats and challenges.
